On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, community members in Des Moines are invited to gather for an evening of conversation, coffee, and brain health awareness at The Slow Down Coffee Co. The event, “Talkin’ About Walkin’,” is a live podcast hosted by Corey Dion Lewis, founder of My City My Health, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter.

The event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and is open to anyone interested in learning how something as simple as walking can support brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

What to Expect
This live podcast will focus on the growing research behind physical activity—especially walking—as a preventive tool against dementia and other brain health concerns. Attendees will hear insights from:

  • Corey Lewis, Host and Founder of My City My Health INC
  • Keesha Ward, Director of Development, Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter
  • Jessica Duncan, CDP, Program Director, Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter, and advocate whose father passed away from dementia in his fifties

This event is about community connection and bringing attention to the groups most at risk for cognitive decline. It will also highlight free tools and resources available through the Alzheimer’s Association.

Why It Matters
According to Alzheimer’s Association data, physical activity is one of the most accessible ways to support long-term brain health. Events like this bring those conversations to the community level, where education and prevention can make a measurable impact.

Save the Date for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s
This event is also a lead-up to the Des Moines Walk to End Alzheimer’s, scheduled for September 27, 2025. Attendees will have the chance to learn more and get involved.

How to Join
Registration is encouraged so the team can prepare enough chairs and treats for everyone. Sign up at alz.org/crf or contact Jessica Duncan at jduncan@alz.org or 515.325.5287.

Bring your questions, your friends, and your walking shoes. This is a conversation worth stepping into.
